A little plot background:

It’s Christmastime again, which means that it’s time to start thinking about assembling the kids for the annual church Christmas pageant, but when Mrs. Armstrong, the pageant’s tenured director, goes down with a broken leg, Grace Bradley finds herself thrust into the role of director for the first time.  Little could she have expected that matters would be made even more complicated when the Herdmans, a pack of wild children, would decide to make their first appearance at Sunday School, and eventually land themselves in leading roles for this year’s pageant! Despite the obstacles, Grace marches forward with her cast and declares to the doubters that it will be The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!

There are some very fun roles in the cast, each loaded with opportunities to bring on raucous laughter! (all of the ages listed are flexible)

BETH BRADLEY (9-12 yrs. old) – Leading role – A spunky girl that often tells it like it is.  She is also the narrator of the show.

GRACE BRADLEY, MOTHER (high school age) – Leading Role – Beth’s mother, who gets roped into directing the church Christmas pageant when the usual director breaks her leg.

CHARLIE BRADLEY (10-13 yrs. old) – Beth’s brother.  He’s been a shepherd every year, and is getting more than a little tired of it.

BOB BRADLEY, FATHER (high school age) – Would rather stay home than go see the Christmas Pageant again, but ends up helping his wife when she gets pulled in to direct.

ALICE WENDLEKEN (9-13 yrs. old) – A prim, proper, pain in the neck that plays the part of Mary in the pageant every year.

THE HERDMANS – 5 kids in town that everyone fears

IMOGENE HERDMAN (11-15 yrs. old) – the leader of the pack (heavy line load). She takes over the role of Mary from Alice.

LEROY HERDMAN (10-15 yrs. old) – a tough guy; very sure of himself.

CLAUDE HERDMAN (9-14 yrs. old) – another tough guy, just a bit smaller.

OLLIE HERDMAN (8-13 yrs. old) – Claude’s partner in crime, most of the time.

GLADYS HERDMAN (8-12 yrs. old) – The youngest Herdman; loud and fiesty.

THE CHURCH LADIES

MRS. ARMSTRONG (high school age) – has directed the Christmas pageant every other year.  Likes being in charge.

Also MRS. SLOCUM, MRS. CLARK, MRS. CLAUSING, MRS. MCCARTHY (all high school age)

REVEREND HOPKINS (high school age) – fears that the Herdmans will ruin the Christmas pageant.

CHRISTMAS PAGEANT PARTICIPANTS – the regular crowd at Sunday School

HOBIE, ELMER, DAVID, MAXINE, BEVERLY
