DC Native Brings Eclectic Sampling to Callao Theatre
Jay Johnson grew up in Washington, D.C., during the 1960’s. As a boy, he was fortunate to catch performances at the famous Howard Theatre, seeing big acts like Otis Redding, James Brown, and The Temptations. Little did he dream he’d perform there himself one day.
As a teenager, Johnson studied classical piano and composition, later majoring in music in high school and at the University of the District of Columbia. He would play at the Kennedy Center, the White House, and around the country, including Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
With over 40 years of musical experience, Johnson has held many different positions within the music industry. He has played with many professional artists, musicians, and entertainers. His current focus is on teaching, performing, and producing music and movies.
At our concert, he is joined by guest artist Joanna Carter Johnson, a relative of the June Carter/Johnny Cash, Carter Family Singers. She’s also his wife!
