Players Honored as Region’s Best

The Westmoreland Players is proud to receive the honor of “Best Performing Arts Company” in Eastern Virginia. In the current issue of Virginia Living, the magazine awarded its top prize to the Callao theater troupe. Theatre enthusiasts offered their support of the rural community theatre—now 37 years old—by voting it number one.

In 1997, the Players created their permanent home in Callao and brought Glenn Evans on as Artistic Director. In collaboration with his wife, Joy, they have guided the creative development of the theatre.

With the help of countless numbers of devoted volunteers, the Evanses have created a jewel box of a facility and a theatrical venue to be admired.

“We have always been proud to be a part of the Players,” remarked Glenn. “For twenty years, it has been our privilege to assist the Players in choosing great scripts that speak to our audience. Where else in the Northern Neck can you meet your friends, socialize, and be so entertained?”

The Players close the current season with the premier production of The Fortune Hunters, an original work by Joy Evans. Based on a classic 18th century comedy, the playwright has blended the past with the present and molded the play specifically for the Players’ acting company.

Celebrate your very own award-winning community theatre by attending a performance of The Fortune Hunters, which runs August 4 to 19, 2018. Call the box office at 804-529-9345 or purchase your tickets online.

Thank you for supporting the arts in your own backyard!
